Bedtime Stories

Short stories for kids

In a village, there lived a hen with her three chicks. The first two chicks were very obedient and never left their mother’s side on the other hand the third one was very naught and roamed alone sometimes.

Hen: Look here children, stay together and search for the food and you the third one, did you listen?

Third Chick: Yes Mom!

As they were packing their food and moving, mother hen spotted a Khan lying nearby.

Hen: Listen my dear! Can you see an ear of corn lying there? Don’t ever try to eat it, it’ll stick in your throat.

In spite of the warning given by the mother, the third chick slowly went near the corn.

Third Chick: Mom is not watching me, let me try it in one grain.

The chick picked one grain and tried swallowing it. That’s it! It got stuck in his throat. Meanwhile, mother Hen arrived.

The Hen: Oh my GOD! Why did you eat that? I warned you, wait here, I’ll bring some water to drink.

Mother hen ran towards a pond nearby.

Hen: Oh dear pond, Please give me some water. My son has eaten a corn grain that is stuck in his throat.

Pond: Oh! Very sorry. Bring a cup and I will give you the water. Go to the old lady sitting over there and ask her to make a cup for you.

The Hen: Okay I will return with the cup.

The Hen went to the old lady who was sitting under the tree.

The Hen: Oh dear lady! Will you please make me a cup and mother Hen narrated the whole story.

Old lady: Oh I pity you! Get me a banana leaf and before that will you find out my needle?

Mother Hen searched for the needle. After finding the needle she left to get the banana leaf.

Hen to Banana plant: Friend! Will you give me a leaf so that the old lady will make me a cup and the pond will give me the water for my son and narrated her story again.

Banana Plant: Oh! How sad! Do not worry, I will give you but before that will you inform the farmer to cut the branches of bananas which are very heavy.

Hen: Definitely! I will do so and she ran to see the farmer.

Farmer: Hey hen what is the hurry.

Hen: Oh! I have come to meet you. Please help me, kind man. My son is sick as he had eaten corn, please cut the bunch of bananas so that he will give me a leaf.

Farmer: I will help you but you have to give me the eggs you leave for a week.

Hen: That’s simple, I will give you please come soon.

The farmer chopped the banana bunch.

Banana: Oh what a relief! Here take this leaf.

The Hen thanked both of them and ran with the leaf to the old lady.

Old lady: Ah! You are here with the leaf. Let me make a cup.

The Hen thanked the old lady and ran with the cup to the pond and the pond poured the water into the cup. The Hen thanked the pond and ran to the chick that was waiting on the water. The chick drank the water from the cup.

Hen: Thank GOD! Your hiccups stopped. Didn’t I tell you not to eat that?

Third chick: Sorry mother, I have learned a lesson. I will obey your words from this moment. Please forgive me mom.

Moral of the story: Whatever mom says is always good for you. Always obey your parents and elders.

THE END!
